Program Coordinator

School on Wheels provides tutoring to youth experiencing homelessness at Indianapolis-area homeless shelters and schools. We are currently seeking a part-time Program Coordinator to manage the tutoring hour at two of our shelter sites. The position requires working with K-12 youth and their families, adult volunteer tutors, and school systems to provide educational support to our students.

The Program Coordinator oversees the after-school tutoring hour, takes attendance, logs attendance in an online database, helps tutors with provided educational materials and activities whenever necessary, and communicates between the staff at each site, the volunteer tutors, and School on Wheels staff to make sure the students’ needs are being met.  The Program Coordinator will also connect with teachers and parents to ensure all students are receiving an optimal educational experience during our tutoring time.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A background working with underserved youth, social work and/or education/classroom teaching
  • A passion for the School on Wheels’ mission
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Computer skills

The candidate must be available to oversee tutoring during evening hours on Tuesday through Thursday throughout the school year.  Additionally, the Program Coordinator will attend a bi-monthly meeting at the School on Wheels main office on Monday evenings. 

The position will be up to 20 hours per week and pays $15/hour throughout the school semesters, equivalent to 34 weeks a year.
