Leave a Legacy

Leave a legacy that will benefit your community for generations.

Simply put, ‘you can’t take it with you’.  You have worked hard to build a quality of life for yourself and those you care about. Why not make arrangements to allow homeless children in Indianapolis the chance to do the same for themselves?

Every planned gift (also called an estate gift, legacy gift or bequest) to School on Wheels helps provide children with the tools, support and education they need to break the crushing cycle of homelessness now and far into the future.   There are many ways to leave a lasting legacy with School on Wheels and most planned gifts provide substantial tax advantages to the donor. Our staff can work with you and your financial advisor to create the planned gift that best fits your financial circumstances and wishes. Important note: For all official documentation, our legal organization name is School on Wheels Corp.

To discuss these or any of the countless other planned giving options, please contact Elizabeth Murphy via email or call 317.202.9100.

Bequest

A will not only allows you to remember the people who have been important to you throughout your life, it also means you can start, continue or increase your support of School on Wheels.  People who support us in their lifetime can continue giving by leaving a donation in their wills.

Through your will, you can give:
- A specific sum of money or specific property
- A percentage of your total estate
- All or a percentage of the remainder after all other bequests are satisfied

If you have already created your will, you can create a simple change, called a codicil, to add School on Wheels as your beneficiary.

Retirement Plans

You can name School on Wheels as a beneficiary of your qualified retirement plan to receive a designated amount or percentage of assets you wish to be used for charitable purposes. If you are 59 ½ years of age, you may make withdrawals (no early withdrawal penalty) to fund your charitable gifts. If you are at least 70 ½ years, you may direct that your mandatory withdrawal amount be used to make a charitable gift on a tax-free basis.

Life Insurance

You can name School on Wheels as a beneficiary in an existing life insurance policy or purchase a new policy and designate School on Wheels as a beneficiary.

Life Income Gifts

These gifts provide a stream of income to you or your designated beneficiary as well as current and future income, capital gains and estate tax benefits.
- Charitable Gift Annuity
- Charitable Remainder Unitrust
- Charitable Remainder Annuity Trust

Charitable Lead Trust

This trust is similar to the Charitable Remainder Trust above, except that the trust income is directed to School on Wheels for a term designated by the donor. At the end of the term, the assets are returned to you or your designated beneficiary.
