Volunteer Expectations and Options All interested volunteers must pass a Criminal Background Check prior to placement. (Please check the volunteer opportunity you are interested in below)
*Notice: Tutoring for School on Wheels requires a commitment of at least one semester, this is equal to a 5 month commitment (ex: August-December or January-May) or no more than 10 possible tutoring nights.
Descriptions:
- Provide tutoring at one local program partner site once a week for one hour for a commitment of one semester or approximately 15-17 weeks. We hope that most volunteers will continue for a second semester or longer but it is not required. - Tutoring takes place for one hour Monday-Thursday anywhere between the hours of 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. depending upon the program location. Volunteers need to check in 10 min. prior to the tutoring hour with our on-site Program Coordinator. - Engage school-aged youth in homework assistance and educational resources (provided by School on Wheels) each week. - We understand that unexpected events do occur, however we are asking you to commit to 80% or higher attendance (no more than 3 absences) over the semester. - Understand that you must be 14 years of age or older to tutor on your own, if not please select the Adult/Child option (See option #2 below). - Must participate in a 2 hour training and pass a criminal background check.
- Provide tutoring as an adult/child team at one local program partner site one time per week for a commitment of one semester or approximately 15-17 weeks. We hope that most volunteers will continue for a second semester or longer but it is not required. - Child must be between the ages of 11-13 (no younger than 11). *Trained adult must attend every tutoring session with their child* - Tutoring takes place for one hour Monday-Thursday anywhere between the hours of 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. depending upon the program location. Tutoring teams need to check in 10 min. prior to the tutoring hour with our on-site Program Coordinator. - Working as a team, engage school-aged youth in homework assistance and educational resources (provided by School on Wheels) each week. - We understand that unexpected events do occur, however we are asking your team to commit to 80% or higher attendance (no more than 3 absences) over the semester. - Must participate in a 2 hour training and pass a criminal background check.
- Be on call twice a month. - Be available to fill in at one assigned program partner site. You would be notified by phone or email no later than 3 p.m. if needed to fill in for someone at a program site. - Must participate in a 2 hour training and pass a criminal background check.
